In response to the escalating political crisis in Ondo State, President Bola Tinubu has once again called for a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The invitees include the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, and other prominent figures.

Scheduled for today (Monday), the meeting is seen as a crucial effort to address the ongoing political turmoil in the state. Sources reveal that the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, and the state chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin, have also been summoned by the President.

The meeting aims to bring together key parties and stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the challenges arising from the prolonged absence of the governor, who has been away on a medical vacation abroad.

Notable attendees from the previous meeting held in November included the state party chairman, Adetimehin, the SSG, Princess Odu, the governor’s son, Babajide Akeredolu, and senators representing Ondo South, Ondo North, and Central Districts. The resolution at that meeting emphasized the maintenance of the status quo.

Meanwhile, pro-democracy activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has announced plans to mobilize residents for the ‘Occupy Ondo State’ protest at Akure Town Hall next Saturday. The protest aims to address concerns related to governance and the absence of Governor Akeredolu.

However, the State Police Commissioner, Asabi Abiodun, has issued a warning against activities that may disrupt peace in the state. The statement emphasizes the police’s commitment to respecting citizens’ rights while ensuring the maintenance of law and order. The Commissioner advises the people of the state not to be swayed by actions that could lead to unnecessary disturbances, reaffirming the police’s readiness to uphold peace.
