The House of Representatives has received a letter from President Bola Tinubu regarding the 2024 statutory Budget Proposal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
During the plenary session, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced that the proposal, formulated in accordance with the FCTA revenue and expenditure focus, aligns with the fiscal development policy of the federal government.
According to the letter, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has prepared the 2024 budget proposal for the state Capital, in compliance with the provisions of section 121 and 299 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999. The proposal, now under the consideration of the Green Chamber, emphasizes improvements in healthcare services, job creation, youth empowerment, and increased productivity.
Additionally, responding to matters of urgent national importance, the House, upon a motion moved by Munir Ahmed from Kaduna state, has called on the office of the National Security Adviser and security agencies to take immediate action to rescue over one hundred and eighty abducted teachers and students in Kaduna state.
Similarly, Honorable Austin Achadu from Benue state raised concerns about the recurring attacks on individuals in Benue and appealed to the Federal Government to facilitate rehabilitation and enhance security measures for the affected community and its surroundings.
Moreover, Honorable Paul Haruna from Kogi State expressed distress over recent armed robbery attacks resulting in loss of lives in parts of the state. Urging urgent action, he called for collaboration between the federal and state governments to implement necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.
In legislative matters, the House passed ten bills for the first reading during the plenary session.
