Police Investigate Five Children found dead in Abandoned Vehicle

The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the deaths of five children. They were found lifeless in an abandoned vehicle in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area.

On Sunday, April 28, the children entered a disused car parked at Mr. Abu Agyeme’s residence. They never made it out alive.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, ordered a full investigation into the case. Police released the update on Monday through spokesman SP Ramhan Nansel.

The victims, aged between six and ten, were found inside the parked vehicle. They appeared to have suffocated.

A resident, Mr. Ozimna Ogbor, reported the discovery around 5:30 p.m. Police responded quickly and rushed the children to Aro Hospital in Agyaragu. Doctors confirmed all five had died before arrival. Their bodies showed signs of severe heat burns.

A Painful Reminder of Past Tragedies

After the incident, Jauro-Mohammed expressed deep sorrow and extended his condolences to the families.

He warned parents and guardians to secure parked or abandoned vehicles. Mr. Jauro-Mohammed urged all vehicle owners to prevent unsupervised child access. He stressed that safety precautions can prevent tragedies like this.

SP Nansel noted the victims were later released to their families for burial. The families had made formal requests. He also recalled a similar case from August 2019. That incident also involved children who died in a parked car.

He called the tragedy a painful reminder of the need for greater vigilance. Police promised to leave no stone unturned in the investigation.
