Troops Conduct Clearance Operations, Destroy IPOB Camps, and Recover Arms in Anambra State

In an effort to ensure peace and security in the South East region of Nigeria, troops from the 302 Regiment operating under the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Anambra Vigilante Group, executed clearance operations against the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu the Nigerian Army Spokesman said during the operation, which took place on Sunday, July 23, 2023, the identified camps belonging to the fighters were successfully destroyed in Oroma and Umuewelum Anam, located in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State. The primary aim of the raid was to curb the illicit activities of these fighters in the communities.

As a result of the raid, the troops were able to recover a cache of arms, including one AK 47 Rifle, one AKMS Rifle, as well as three Lexus SUVs and two Motorcycles. Additionally, eight brigands were apprehended during the operation.

In a separate operation targeting another IPOB camp at Mmiata Anam in Anambra South, the brave troops encountered the irredentist group. During the encounter, one IPOB fighter was neutralized, and another was captured alive. As part of the operation’s success, the troops also recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one dane gun, and police uniforms.
