Tunde Bakare Clarifies: My Meeting with President Tinubu Was Not for Personal Gain
Tunde Bakare, the esteemed overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, has publicly addressed recent speculations regarding his motives for meeting with President Bola Tinubu. The meeting, which took place on June 4 at the president’s residence in Lagos, sparked widespread discussion about Bakare’s intentions, especially given his past as a 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant.
During a recent sermon, Bakare categorically dismissed claims that his engagement with President Tinubu was driven by personal benefits. He emphasized his consistent stance of integrity and service, questioning the notion that he sought to “settle” himself through political connections.
“Some people still think he has gone there to settle himself. In what way have I settled myself before? What they gave me, I returned. What am I looking for?” Bakare stated, highlighting his commitment to principles over personal advantage.
Bakare’s clarification comes amid a politically charged atmosphere where alliances and meetings are often interpreted as moves for personal or political gain. His remarks aim to reaffirm his dedication to public service and spiritual leadership without compromising his values.
