In a bid to address the lingering political discord in Rivers State, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara disclosed his participation in numerous reconciliation meetings. However, he lamented that these efforts were met with resistance from the opposing party, hampering progress towards peace.
During a courtesy visit by a delegation from Bayelsa State, led by former governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor Fubara expressed his commitment to maintaining peace despite facing challenges in resolving the crisis.
“I have always taken the path of peace,” asserted Governor Fubara. “Each time we come out from such meetings, we are faced with one thunder or lightning.”
Governor Fubara underscored his dedication to continuing the developmental strides initiated by past leaders, including the immediate past governor. He emphasized the need for stability to foster meaningful progress in the state.
Acknowledging the complexities of human relationships, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of maintaining humility and recognizing the supremacy of God in all endeavors. He cautioned against elevating individuals to a status above their human capabilities.
Regarding the House of Assembly led by Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule, Governor Fubara declared its defunct status in the eyes of the law. He clarified that his acceptance of a peace accord was aimed at providing a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
“Those group of men who claim that they are assembly members, they are not existing,” stated Governor Fubara unequivocally. “I accepted that peace accord to give them a floating (soft-landing). That’s the truth.”
In conclusion, Governor Fubara reiterated his dedication to upholding peace and stability in Rivers State, emphasizing the imperative of collective efforts in moving the state forward amidst political challenges.
